Heritage Open Days
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations. Every year, in September, places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s completely FREE.
This year The Depot is getting involved and will open its doors to allow visitors in to celebrate its rich military heritage. Visitors will be invited to take a tour and find out about the history of the site, what was stored in each of its red-brick buildings and how the site contributed to the winning of four major wars.
For those travelling from Northampton, a vintage bus will be picking up from Northampton Town Hall and travelling to The Depot before returning via Blisworth Canal Marina (Route H9, please see times below)
As many of you are aware The Depot was recently successful in a Heritage Lottery Fund bid and will be using the funds to run an oral history project and open a Visitor Centre. The open day will be your first opportunity to come on in to see how the refurbishment is progressing as the project gets underway!
If you have any artefacts, memories or stories relating to The Depot, we would love to hear from you and use them to help shape the upcoming exhibition space. Please feel free to bring items of interest with you on the day.
To complete your visit, maybe treat yourself to something delicious in The Booksmith’s coffee shop and browse their huge range of new, used and antiquarian books.
